Steelport - 4" Carbon Steel Paring Knife - 65 HRC, Made in USA Description

The STEELPORT 4” Paring Knife is designed for a high level of maneuverability and application. A paring knife is an essential tool and the second most frequently used knife in the kitchen after a chef knife. The smallest knife in the lineup, The STEELPORT team designed the 4” Paring Knife to perfectly complement the STEELPORT 8" and 6” Chef Knife, using the same materials, handcrafted methods and rigorous attention to detail.

It’s a perfect choice for any "minimalist" who enjoys a tool that can multitask. Its unique shape and size allows the 4” Paring Knife to perform many functions of a petty or utility knife as well, from preparing smaller produce like shallots and garlic, to light precision butchering tasks such as processing small game birds and trimming fat.

Blade Shape

The sheepsfoot tip allows the blade to have a flatter profile which means it can make more contact with the board. It is intentionally taller and larger than an average paring knife, allowing for precision without being too delicate, and the contoured handle provides a comfortable close grip for finer control and finesse. The longer-than-average 4” length allows for use on a cutting board and finer kitchen tasks as well as use holding in-hand for peeling and coring.

Blade Material / Heat Treat

STEELPORT knives have solid one-piece traditional drop forged construction from blade tip to end cap with an integral bolster for a well-balanced and long-lasting knife. Through STEELPORT’s proprietary differential heat treatment, American 52100 Carbon Steel achieves an unmatched 65HRC hardness at the blade for exceptional long-lasting sharpness, while maintaining a softer 30HRC spine for lifelong durability. The bolster and spine are hand-polished smooth for a supremely comfortable pinch grip hold.

STEELPORT handles are contoured to accommodate any hand, offering a unique 2" height at the blade heel for finger clearance. All STEELPORT handles, are constructed using Oregon Big Leaf Maple Burl, a locally sourced, naturally unique burl wood, stabilized with resin to meet tough kitchen requirements and won’t shrink or swell.

About STEELPORT Knife Co.

STEELPORT Knife Co. is a small team dedicated to producing the most trusted kitchen knives available. STEELPORT'S work combines premium materials, traditional forging technique, and American heirloom craftsmanship. Manufactured and sharpen each knife by hand in Portland, Oregon.

STEELPORT Knife Co. is reintroducing heirloom American-forged carbon steel cutlery. Delivering trusted performance, exceptional design, and handcrafted individuality through rigorous attention to detail.

STEELPORT Knife Co. believes in craftsmanship without compromise. Each knife produced has a beautiful individuality only found in handcrafted products that use natural materials. No two wooden handles or blades can have identical grain patterns, and each knife will patina a little differently over time, telling a story of all the meals it has helped prepare.

Carbon Steel Care Tips

  • Always hand wash and hand dry (never use a dishwasher or leave in the sink)
  • Always keep your carbon steel knife clean and dry; oiling is not necessary unless it will be stored for a long period of time. Patina is natural and necessary- learn to love it.
  • If rust does occur, it is important to remove it before pitting can begin.
  • Don’t let it get dull – honing your knife while it still has an edge will prevent you from having to sharpen it often. We recommend a ceramic hone or a leather strop.
  • When sharpening, we recommend hand sharpening on a waterstone or wet grinding – avoid any aggressive machine sharpening or any draw-through automatic devices.

Handle Care Tips

  • Treat your handle like you would a wooden cutting board. Use a food safe mineral oil or oil/beeswax mix occasionally or when it will be stored for a long period of time.
