A Tradition of Quality
111 years ago, in Seki Japan, the town known for its blade-making tradition, a man named Saijiro Endo started the company the Kai Group. Shun, meaning season in Japanese, has continued Japanese customs of developing the sharpest and strongest knives in the highest degree since 2002.
Hammer marks are evident on Shun knives. These hammer marks are unique in which they create tiny air pockets. These air pockets reduce drag. The Tsuchime technique has been in Japan since the Samurai. Shun has taken this technique to the next level!
100 different steps! Yes, you heard right, Shun has 100 different steps to fashion these culinary works of art. As seasons change, the perfection of that moment in when the fruit is the most ripe, the air is crisp, the sun and clouds blend beautifully. This deep philosophical approach is the belief Shun holds for its products and its people.
Shun’s VG10 is a complex blend, way more than carbon and iron. The layered Damascus of different alloys provides a look no other knife company provides. Between the Rockwell hardness, the appearance, and the hand-feel of these knives, Shun will be a welcome addition to your home.
The Kai Group has received world-wide honors. Most notably the 2017 Blade Show Kitchen Knife of the Year! Shun’s attention to detail has brought 5 Star reviews and accolades year after year.
